Story Change

I had a chat with Richard the other day and we made a major decision looking at the script, to change the characters some more. We came to the decision that 3 characters could be taken away from the narrative. The Fool (his story was weak and very much what people had seen before, a student party e.g Skins etc) not a lot to build on and not a lot of originality. We already got rid of The Justice (cop) character as well as the fact that his story was brief and wasn't a very good progression of the story. The Lawyer, we found, was brilliant as a driving force to the story, yet lacked a story to tell. We really wanted to keep his essence and not lose the conflict he would create, being one of the most intelligent and manipulative characters of the whole production.

We decided to combine his character with that of The Lover, either with her in the interview room or an actual amalgamation of the two characters. This would create a strong lawyer character, male or female, with both intelligence and manipulation of The Devil character, but also the sexual attraction and warfare of  The Lover. We were thinking using sexuality, the Lawyer could be bisexual and lead a sexual, psychological and over all manipulative assault on both the doctor and detective.

We also came to the conclusion that losing more characters equals more time to spend on characters which are left. The Fool character's armature animation, we thought, would look a lot better with The Hermit character, the set building with lots of colourful lights of a carnival could look very stunning visually.

All in all, having 4 psyches rather than 7 loses the clutter and what could have been a rushed attempt in dealing with all stories in too short a time. I personally really want to explore more tension and story outside the flashbacks, with more time to look at the detective and doctor's constant opposing viewpoints and tension as they struggle to get closer to the truth.

We have sent the current draft of the script to Kiara, with casting kit updating the changes, which has been sent to actor's guild websites. It is now a case of wait and see who messages back then organising auditions.
