THE WHITE IRIS

FRACTURE

A police psychologist enters a psychiatric hospital to review a case where an inmate has disappeared mysteriously from his cell. The hospital workers have no clues or leads as to what has happened. The police psychologist is briefed by the head of the psychiatric hospital, and is told about the last person to see the missing individual and that he has a ‘special condition’.

The psychologist begins their investigation by being introduced to this inmate who was in the neighbouring cell to the missing person and begins to question them.

The neighbouring cell mate is elusive & only has partial information to help the psychologist; the cell mate however suggests other figures from the hospital that the psychologist may find it interesting to talk to...

The psychologist sets out interviewing the other figures/suspects, each in turn offering partial stories relating to the disappearance. Conflicting tales & questions about who is telling the truth arise.

After the last interview, the police psychologist deduces what he believes has happened at the mysterious disappearance and talks to the head of the hospital revealing his theory.

Just before he leaves the hospital he goes back to the interview room to thank ‘everyone’ for their help, (there is only the neighbouring cell mate in the room) when it is revealed that all the interviewees are split personalities in the neighbouring inmates mind, a shot compositing all the personalities over his face.

GENERAL IDEAS

· Scene/shot of characters shadow moving along corridor wall while whistling

· The multiple personalities could claim alternate theories as to disappearance e.g. one claims murder, one claims escape

· The multiple personalities could blame each other for what happened

· For each personality – different drawing/animation style – looks and movement

I've sent the draft treatment and concept art Rich and I thought up for this project in the attachments above. Simon, Rich and I have also been adding to the ideas by email so I'll also post up what we've come up with below. As you can see, we've got loads of ideas on where to go with it. Rich and I also sat down today and ran through the tarot card idea again, listing possible personalities that would fit each card. We also photocopied lots of different visual drawing styles from some books in the library so we'll either show you or post them up once they're scanned in. We looked at certain actor and actress faces that we thought would fit with each character as well and picked out the prominent facial features we liked. The rest is below:
